Background

Jaiprakash Power Ventures Limited (JPVL), a part of the Jaypee Group was incorporated in 1994. The company owns and operates 400 MW Vishnuprayag Hydroelectric project, at District Chamoli,
The company is also implementing the 1320 MW (2X660 MW) super critical technology boiler pit head based Nigrie Thermal Project at District Singrauli in the state of Madhya Pradesh which is expected to commence operations in 2013.

In Madhya Pradesh the company has built and operates the 500 MW Bina Thermal Power Project as well as the 1320 MW Nigrie Coal fired Thermal Power Plant. The Group has developed 3300 MW of supercritical thermal power plants of which a 1980 MW power station is in Bara in Uttar Pradesh.
Amelia (North) coal block had been allotted to Madhya Pradesh State Mining Corporation Limited (MPSMCL) by Ministry of Coal in the year 2006. Subsequently Supreme Court Vide its verdict dated 24th September, 2014 declared the allocation of 204 coal blocks including Amelia (North) illegal and arbitrary. Ministry of coal simultaneously promulgated The Coal Mines (Special Provisions) ordinance 2014 to reallocate the coal blocks either through auction or allotment to private and government entities respectively to be linked with Captive End Use of coal. Amelia (North) coal block was earmarked for Power Sector. Jaiprakash Power Ventures Limited (JPVL) who had commissioned 2×660 MW thermal power plant at Nigrie in Madhya Pradesh participated in the tender process and finally was declared as successful bidder. Coal Mine Development and Production Agreement was signed on 02.03.2015 between Nominated Authority and JPVL. The vesting order No. 104/9/2015/NA in favour of JPVL was issued on 23.03.2015.

All the statutory clearances were transferred in the name of JPVL and finally mining lease deed was signed on 25.05.2015. Thereafter regular mining activities commenced from 26.05.2015.

Till 30th November, 1.78 Million Tonnes coal has been produced and dispatched to Jaypee Nigrie Super Thermal Power Plant.

The company has also subscribed 74% of the equity capital of Jaypee Powergrid Limited (JPL), developed a 214 km long power transmission project to evacuate power from the Karcham Wangtoo project.

The company through its subsidiary Jaypee Arunachal Power Limited is implementing two projects in Arunachal Pradesh, the 2700 MW Lower Siang & 500 MW Hirong. JPVL has also extended into implementation Agreement with Government of Meghalaya to set up 270 MW Umngot and 450 MW Kynshi Stage –II hydro power projects.
